A front-page story in Thursday's edition should have said the public meeting in Riverton next week on the new American Indian education initiative in Wyoming will give the public an opportunity to comment on the new education standards, not the curriculum, which has not yet been developed.



James (Jay) Cleveland Parker, 79, of Lander, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, in a health care facility. A visitation will take place 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15,in the Chapel of Mount Hope at Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the Chapel of Mount Hope at Hudson's Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service with Bishop Johnson officiating.

The 7th annual Midvale Benefit Ice Fishing Derby will be Jan. 12-14 at Ocean Lake. Individual entry fee is $15 and half of entries and all cash donations go to the family of nine-year-old Carson Crofts for medical expenses and travel to Colorado for cancer treatments. Sign up at the Midvale store. Fishing starts Jan. 12 at noon and the last weigh-in is by 10 a.m. Jan. 14. Food will be served at 3 p.m. There will be trophies, prizes and silent auction items at the conclusion of the derby.

Shoshoni Women's 5 Shot Rabbit Team Hunt breakfast will be served at the Shoshoni Fire hall before the hunt. Awards will be presented at the Fire Hall at 104 E. 2nd Street Shoshoni, WY call 850-8242 or 876-2450.

Squirt hockey players will play Douglas at 7 p.m. at the rink on the corner of Smith Road and Park Avenue. Concessions are available; dress warmly.

Wild West Winter Carnival Ice Sculpting will begin at 9 a.m. Meet at Jerry's Flowers and Things for ice assignments. Judging will be done at 2:30 p.m. Pre-register at the Riverton Chamber of Commerce by January 12.

The Opera House Film will air at the Lander library from 12:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. in the Carnegie Room. The free film open to the public explores the creation of the new Met.

The Indoor Winter Car Show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fremont Center of the Fremont County Fairgrounds. Food will be available, admission is free and cost is $20 to register a car. The event is hosted by the Rocky Mountain Rebels Car Show and Autocross.

The Rocky Mountain Antique Snowmobile Association will have their Riverton snowmobile show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the indoor car show. On Jan. 14, there will be a ride for anyone interested in participating in the South Pass ride.

Empty Bowl Soup 'n More at the Lander Senior Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Enjoy a delicious meal of soup and more provided by Lander restaurants and businesses. Proceeds benefit the Lander Care & Share Food Bank. Tickets are $35 per person (advance) or $40 at the door.

A green chili dinner and silent auction is 4-7 p.m. at the Boot Bar, 702 E. Main St. in Riverton. All proceeds go to Hailee Lynch and her daughter, Skyla Spoonhunter, to help them rebuild their lives.

Bumps, Babies, and Breasts will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Riverton Library. The event is hosted by Birth Essence and welcomes pregnant mothers and those who are currently breastfeeding. All breastfeeding questions are welcome. Parents will be provided with information on latching on and positioning, and have the opportunity to meet other mothers.

The Missoula Children's Theatre performance of "Treasure Island" is at 3 p.m. in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theater on the Central Wyoming College campus. Tickets are available at the CWC Box Office for $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for ages 6-18. The box office is open 3-6 p.m. weekdays beginning Jan. 8. Tickets also are available at

The Shoshone Indian Historical Society will have its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Hall Buffalo Room. Everyone is invited.

Sunday, January 14

Monday, January 15

The 15th Annual Fremont County Martin Luther King Jr. Day/Equality Day Walk for Unity will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Riverton City Park by the bandshell and walk to City Hall at 10 a.m. At 10:15 a.m. there will be speeches inside Riverton City Hall.

Bake Sale Benefit for Emerson Hill will be held at 11 a.m. at Rocky Mountain Hall - Buffalo Room. Proceeds will go toward Emerson's travel expenses to see a pediatric nephrologist at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Tuesday, January 16

"Rock Art of the Southwest: A Photographic Journey" Larry Amundson presents his photography work in a photo journal of rock art in the southwest at 7:15 p.m., Hudson Town Hall. The free public program is sponsored by the Fremont County Archaeological Society.

The University of Wyoming's Science Initiative will be the topic of a talk at noon during the Riverton Rotary Club's regular meeting in the Fremont Room at Central Wyoming College. Danny Dale, professor in the department of physics and astronomy, and astronomy Ph.D. student Jessica Sutter will discuss the initiative, which aims to revolutionize scientific education and discovery in Wyoming.

A public discussion on Wyoming's social studies standards will be held 6:30-8 p.m. in the Carnegie Room at the Riverton Library, 1330 W. Park Ave. Attendees will have the opportunity to give feedback on American Indian cultural information that will be included in the social studies curriculum in response to a legislative mandate passed last year.

In Riverton Police Department reports Thursday:

-Craig C'Bearing, 30, of Arapahoe, was arrested at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Sycamore Drive for public intoxication.

Edward Brown, 59, of Riverton, was arrested at about 9:35 a.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of North Federal Boulevard for public intoxication.

Marie Lonebear, 38, of Arapahoe, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of South Fifth Street East for probation violation.

Police responded at about 11:25 p.m. Thursday to reports that someone had used counterfeit money at a business in the 700 block of East Main Street.

In Fremont County Sheriff's Office reports Thursday:

-No arrests were recorded.

Injuries were recorded in a truck and trailer rollover reported at about 11:40 a.m. Thursday in the 3900 block of Wyoming Highway 28 over South Pass. Deputies assisted the Wyoming Highway Patrol at the scene.
