Jan 7, 2018 By Randy Tucker, Staff Writer

It was a roller-coaster weekend for the Wyoming Indian girls in the Big Horn Shootout played in Cowley and Lovell.

The Lady Chiefs avenged an early-season loss against a talented Wright Panthers team 59-56 in opening- round action early on Friday afternoon, then rolled over Shoshoni 61-12, before falling to a talented Class 3-A Buffalo team 63-41.

Wyoming Indian trailed 13-8 late in the opening period, but stayed close on the play of 5-foot-11 post Alex Trosper, who dominated the Wright front line with left-handed power moves, reverse layups and follow shots.

Wright built leads of seven points three times in the second period, but each time the Chiefs found an answer.

Halle Robinson scored on a bullet pass from Alex Trosper to close the gap to 25-22 with 5:00 remaining in the second period and Sandie Friday tossed a perfect-angled pass through the Wright zone for another Robinson basket a minute later. The Lady Chiefs trailed by three points at the half.

Teanna Trosper has been deadly at the free-throw line this season and it was a pair of her charity shots that knotted the game at 38.

Wright built their advantage back to four as the third period ended, but the Chiefs tied it again at 45 on an Alex Trosper steal and assist to Friday.

Wyoming took their first lead 52-51 on a cut to the basket by Alsee Her Many Horses with 4:05 remaining and never gave it up, holding on for the win.
