Treasurer intros flag disposal boxesJan 7, 2018 From staff reports
After a pilot program in the fall of 2016, a program that provides flag disposal boxes has gone national. Through a partnership between the National Association of Counties, (NACo), the National Flag Foundation, and the National Sheriff's Association, Fremont County Treasurer Scott Harnsberger requested and received a flag disposal box.
The box is located in the lobby of the Fremont County Treasurer's office in Lander and provides a place where residents can drop off their old, tattered and torn flags for "a proper, dignified disposal." "This box allows our citizens to conveniently and respectfully recycle their flags," Harnsberger said. "The flags once collected will be delivered to the Veterans of Foreign Wars-Post 954 in Lander for proper disposal or recycle."
The flag disposal boxes are provided free of charge to NACo member counties thanks to national sponsorship from Nationwide Insurance & Lamar Advertising. The Fremont County Treasurer's office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
