Lander to host open house celebrating fiber optic cable connectionAug 17, 2017 From staff reports
The Lander Economic Development Association and Union Wireless Company will host an open house celebrating the joining of Union's fiber optic cable network from Rawlins to Lander. The celebration will take place Aug. 30 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the new LEDA Enterprise Park, located directly south of the Lander Central Wyoming College Campus on Leedy Boulevard.
Enterprise Park was developed by LEDA to encourage existing businesses from across the United States to relocate in the community as well as an incubator for new startups.
LEDA pursued the Union fiber project by promoting Lander as a prime location for a hub building and a tower. LEDA then entered into a land lease with State of Wyoming on the south side of Leedy Boulevard across from the new Central Wyoming College facility.
Union has installed three underground conduits into Lander and Hudson. One conduit currently holds 48 fiber optic strands into Lander. Two of these strands will be "lit-up" to provide immediate expanded local services while the other strands will be available for future use as the need arises.
The two empty conduits will be available for future expansion by installing additional fiber strands or through leasing the conduit to additional broadband providers.
