Five automobile fatality victims identifiedJun 7, 2017 By Katie Roenigk, Staff Writer
The head-on collision occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, south of Riverton.
Officials have released the names of the five Fremont County residents who died Saturday evening at the scene of a two-vehicle, head-on collision south of Riverton.
Killed in the crash were:
• Sandra Lucero, 54
• Derrald Antelope, 54
• Kristen SunRhodes, 25
•Whitney SunRhodes, 25
• Elizabeth Ridgley, 67.
Lucero, Antelope, and Kristen and Whitney SunRhodes were occupants in one of the vehicles involved, while Ridgley was in a separate vehicle with three other individuals who were injured in the incident.
The survivors were transported from the scene for medical treatment and were in serious but stable condition Tuesday morning, Fremont County Coroner Mark Stratmoen said.
Stratmoen had not released the names of the deceased earlier pending family notification, which was delayed due to difficulties identifying Kristen and Whitney SunRhodes.
"Multiple factors can cause that, (for example) if they're not carrying identification or if nobody recognizes them at the scene," Stratmoen said Tuesday.
The women were identified late Monday, he said, and family members were contacted that evening, but Stratmoen wanted to leave ample time for peripheral relatives to be notified as well.
The cause of death for the five deceased will be blunt-force trauma, Stratmoen said, and they will not be autopsied, though all will undergo toxicology testing. Results will be available in about a week.
The crash was reported at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of 17 Mile Road.
