Long-time Fremont County resident Vickie Bessey has been named chief nursing officer for SageWest Health Care.

"I am thrilled to have Vickie in this new leadership role," said CEO Alan Daugherty. "On top of that, a native of Fremont County and an active leader in our community for many years, she has a deep understanding of the health care needs of our region. I can't think of a more perfect person to have in the important role, and I know she will do an outstanding job."

A registered nurse with more than 26 years of experience at SageWest's Riverton campus, Bessey most recently served as interim CNO for the two-hospital system. Prior to that, she served as assistant CNO, as well as in a medical-surgical nurse manager, clinical nurse leader and staff RN. A past LifePoint Mercy Award winner for the hospital, Bessey was also named a "Hospital Hero" by the Coalition to Protect America's Health Care.

"Vickie brings a wealth of frontline care, management, educational and mentorship experience to the role of CNO," said Mike Jones, chairman of the SageWest board of trustees. "The talents, skills and dedicated passion she has brought to our community for over 26 years will undoubtedly benefit clinical operations at SageWest in even stronger ways and help us further enhance quality patient care."

Bessey holds a master of science in nursing (with an emphasis on education) and a bachelor of science in nursing, both from Grand Canyon University. She also holds and associate of science in nursing from Central Wyoming College.

"My hope for eachy day is that I am able to make a difference and have a positive impact on the people I encounter, whether patients, colleagues or other health care providers," Bessey said.
