February a new high for FC Coroner

Mar 16, 2017 By Daniel Bendtsen, Staff Writer

February marked a record for Fremont County Coroner Mark Stratmoen, who said the month gave him the most cases the county has had since monthly totals were first counted in 2013.

Five of February's 25 cases required an autopsy, Stratmoen said, adding that the month "hopefully is just a momentary surge."

"Surprisingly, we haven't had a vehicular death yet this year," Stratmoen said Tuesday.

That changed Tuesday evening, when a two-car wreck killed three people in Lander.

This year is now on pace to nearly double the number of deaths requiring investigation Stratmoen had in 2016.

Last year had the fewest coroner cases in at least a decade.
