Two killed in vehicle rollover Tuesday; no seatbelts were wornJun 3, 2015 From staff reports
Two Fremont County men died Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle rollover west of Shoshoni.
Reports state Rupert D. Goggles Jr., 42, of St. Stephen's, and Thurlo R. Tidzump, 42, of Arapahoe, both were ejected from the 2007 Nissan Murano involved; they were not wearing seatbelts. Fremont County Coroner Mark Stratmoen said they died of blunt-force trauma.
Goggles had been driving the vehicle south on Wyoming Highway 789 about five miles west of Shoshoni near the Boysen Reservoir causeway when the vehicle drifted off of the highway at about 5:10 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials believe Goggles overcorrected, sending the vehicle into a slide. The Nissan left the roadway, "tripped" and rolled.
Tidzump suffered fatal injuries at the scene, while Goggles succumbed to his injuries while being transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Alcohol use and speed are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash.
Wyoming Highway Patrol officials said a third person had been in the vehicle before the crash, but he was left at the rest stop near Shoshoni.
Scanner traffic reported that a person believed to have been in the vehicle had fled the scene on foot and that an air ambulance helped in the search for the person. Officials did not elaborate on that situation Thursday, or whether those reports concerned the person left at the rest stop.
Emergency responders also were heard reporting a mechanical problem with a transporting ambulance and requested another ambulance for assistance.
