Pile burning planned in forest
With winter conditions in place, the Shoshone National Forest plans to burn both hand constructed and machine built slash piles on the Wind River Ranger District and the Washakie Ranger District.
Burn areas will include the upper Wind River, Horse Creek, upper Little Warm Springs and various locations along Louis Lake Road as well as a few areas in Sinks Canyon.
Two community piles also will be burnt. One is in the Pass Creek subdivision south of Lander, and the other is near the Union Pass subdivision near Dubois. The piles are a result of timber sales, fuels reduction and community "fire wise" projects the Shoshone National Forest has worked on during the past year.
Smoke generated from the burning may be visible throughout the Wind River Basin, Sinks Canyon and the South Pass area along U.S. Highway 28. The overall duration of the projects will vary with weather conditions and may last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
For more information, call the Washakie Ranger District at 332-5460 or the Wind River Ranger District at 455-2466.
County lakes have ice fishing regs
Ice fishing is becoming increasingly popular in Wyoming, and while most waters in the state are open under general regulations to ice anglers, there are 26 bodies that have liberalized regulations covered under the special winter ice fishing provision.
On waters covered under the provision, anglers can use up to six lines when fishing through the ice. The regulation requires that when anglers use more than two lines on these waters, the angler's name shall be attached to each pole, line or tip-up.
On waters not covered under the provision, anglers can use up to two lines.
Boysen Reservoir, Ocean Lake and Pilot Butte Reservoir in Fremont County are covered by the special provision.
Other Wyoming waters covered are Alcova Reservoir, Big Horn Lake, Big Sandy Reservoir, Boulder Lake, Deaver Reservoir, Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Fontenelle Reservoir, Glendo Reservoir, Goldeneye Reservoir, Gray Reef Reservoir, Grayrocks Reservoir, Guernsey Reservoir, Harrington Reservoir, Keyhole Reservoir, Kortes Reservoir, Lake DeSmet, Lake Hattie, Pathfinder Reservoir, Seminoe Reservoir, Sulphur Creek Reservoir, Wardell Reservoir, Wheatland Reservoir No. 3 and Woodruff Reservoir.
